Lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture, in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume. The lion is regarded as a guardian creature in traditional Chinese socielty.. Usually the lion costume is operated by a pair of dancers. The dance is traditionally accompanied by gongs, drums and firecrackers, representing the descent of good luck. It is usually performed in festivals or celebrations to summon luck and fortune. Chinese lion dances can be broadly categorized into two styles, Northern style and Southern style.
